Part 7: Hardware Modification

(M4x0.7 thread cutting die required)

1. The fan securing bolt is now too long to secure the smaller fan to the fan module frame.

If you have ready access to a shorter M4x0.7 partially threaded bolt, you may employ it and skip this section.



2. Note the appropriate length of the bolt.

3. Using a bolt cutter or hacksaw, shorten the bolt to an appropriate length, preserving some thread.



4. Using an appropriate amount of cutting oil, and an M4x0.7 die, cut sufficient new threads into the shortened fan securing bolt.

It may prove easier to hold the bolt steady with a screwdriver, and turn the die, to avoid stripping the head.







5. Clean the new threads, and dress the end of the bolt with a Dremel tool or sandpaper.



5. Proceed to reassembly.
